Welcome to Wil's computer homepage! I've built a lot of computers over the years and people are always asking me what's inside my rig. So I've decided to create this page which has the details of my latest rig and a bit about why I chose each part. Maybe you'll find it helpful the next time you build your own computer! August 2005 - Fast, Silent, UV!
When I built my last Athlon 2700+ based computer nearly four years ago I didn't really think too much about the noise that it made. Over the past few years it's become trendy to have a fast but silent computer so I thought I'd join in . I wasn't going to sacrifice speed though - this system had to have a GeForce 7800GTX and an Athlon x2 DualCore CPU. Since I do a lot of video and photo editing with MS MovieMaker, VirtualDub and GIMP, the Athlon x2 was the best compromise (for games only a higher clocked Athlon FX is better).

November 2003 - Black & Blue Athlon
Click here to see my old computer built around a Lian Li PC-65B case with blue cold cathode lighting and an Athlon XP/Asus CPU and motherboard. This was a great machine that lasted for over nearly 3 years (a long time in computer terms). AMD were really onto a winner with the Athlon XP, which delivered superior price/performance ratio compared to any Intel chip.
